FIRST PREY

This is the first hunt for Kayzer and Kimya, the two cheetah cubs from Running Wild Conservation, in South Africa. They are part of a breeding and raising programm for reintroduction back into the wild.

What was starting as a casual walk turned into a hunt when Kiara, another cheetah from the programm, spoted some blesbok. Even if the cubs were still too young to participate to a chase, it was their first opportunity to approach a dead prey.

Most extraordinary, Kiara allowed them to come close, and shared the prey with dead - an unusual behavious, female cheetahs being solitary hunters. Perhaps did she realized that the cubs needed to learn something from her, that their mother Abi cannot teach them due to an old injury, when she was owned somewhere else. Moreover, Kiara remaind placid near to her.

The good new here is that she'll be able to teach them all they need to know about hunting, with minimum human interaction : the best way for their future survival into the wild.

Dragging the prey. Cheetahs are exhausted after the hunt, they have to wait at least 20 minutes before starting to eat. Kiara is dragging her prey in a peacefull place, away from the other predators that could steal it from her.

The cubs are used to play with some legs the big cheetahs don't eat. They naturaly go for those parts they recognize.
